I Won't Let Go

When we lived in Hawaii, we had a dear friend and parish priest, Father Mac. I have written about him here before. One of his clever ways of making God more personal was to choose a few top 40 songs to play during mass like "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper (work with me - it was the '80's). He would ask us to consider the lyrics as a love song from God; "If you're lost you can look and you will find me, time after time. If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting..."

I haven't thought of this thing he did for a while, until I heard this song by Rascal Flatts. Immediately, I felt it was a love song from God to me - to all of us.

Maybe this sounds a bit cuckoo to you. I hope not. For me, having been through the fight of my life in the last eight months, facing some pretty big fears, loss, physical pain, lots of tears, and somber possibilities, it spoke to me.

Mine is not the only battle that is being fought, to be sure. Everyone has a battle they are fighting. I hope these words soothe your soul as they have mine. You are not alone. God is with you always.

I Won't Let Go
It’s like a storm
That cuts a path
It’s breaks your will
It feels like that

You think you're lost
But you're not lost on your own
You're not alone
I will stand by you
I will help you through
When you’ve done all you can do
If you can’t cope
I will dry your eyes
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
And I wont let go

It hurts my heart
To see you cry
I know it’s dark
This part of life
Oh it finds us all
And we’re too small
To stop the rain
Oh but when it rains

I will stand by you
I will help you through
When you’ve done all you can do
And you can’t cope
I will dry your eyes
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight

And I wont let you fall
Don’t be afraid to fall
I’m right here to catch you
I wont let you down
It wont get you down
Your gonna make it
Yea I know you can make it

Cause I will stand by you
I will help you through
When you’ve done all you can do
And you can’t cope
And I will dry your eyes
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
And I wont let go
Oh I’m gonna hold you
And I wont let go
Wont let you go
No I wont
